TPA Announces 2010 Award Winners
TPA has announced their 2010 award winners. We have another CAPA member who earned the award for Pharmacist of the Year. Congratulations Mark Zamutt, job well done. Speak out on Bylaw Proposals During June 3 Conference Calls
TPA is hosting some conference calls at off peak times for pharmacists and pharmacy staff to have their voice heard regarding the new proposed bylaws. See Overview of Bylaw Changes If you have questions about the proposed changes to the TPA Bylaws, be sure to participate in the special member forum via conference call on Thursday, June 3. The conference calls will take place twice on June 3 to accommodate members’ varying schedules. Highlights of the proposals will be covered, along with why the changes are necessary. Listen, ask questions and learn more about your Association. The proposed changes will be voted on July 18 by the TPA House of Delegates.
Early registration discount for TPA 2010
Remember that people wanting to be attendees at the 2010 TPA Rxperts Conference and Expo need to register soon if they want to receive an early registration discount.If you visit the TPA website for more information you will see that the deadline is April 14th, 2010. The conference is occurring in July from the 15th to the 18th in Austin, Texas at the Hilton Hotel Downtown. The hotel and the conference are being held in the same location. Next CAPA Meeting Thursday March 4th
Our first meeting for 2010 has taken a while to finally appear, but it is here. We will be having a talk on buprenorphine given by William Nemeth, MD. Remember if your membership is not current with TPA or CAPA, you will not be receiving the e-vites. You can always join now by visiting the TPA website, which is just about to get revamped. Many of the CAPA members and other local pharmacists have been helping TPA get ready for their annual meeting, which will be held in Austin, TX, this year. CAPA is the local chapter of the Texas Pharmacy Association that will be co-hosting the event. If you are interested in contributing to the event, make sure to reach out to Mark Zamutt, one of our local members. We are also looking for more sponsors for our meetings. 1st Annual TPA Leadership Forum
On August 28 & 29 of 2009, TPA invited some of their active leaders within the organization in order to talk about where the organization is heading. We spoke of our mission and strategic plan for the next three years. TPA staff along with many of the board of directors listened to various TPA members throughout the 2-day event. Each of the participants had something to contribute, but most of us left with optimism for the future of the association. Each participant set a goal for the coming year that was attainable. They conveyed their particular goal to the president of TPA, Gene Adams, in an open forum. CAPA had representation from Nathan Pope, Alexis Balko, Joe Jospeh, Jason Sparks, and Marcus Stavchansky. Many of the other large locals, and small, were also represented. Take a look at some of the photos from the event:*I apologize for the large white space, it is something we are working to fix.
A Step in the Right DirectionJoe A. DaSilva, Executive Director/CEO of TPA has posted his August 2009 newsletter. It is important to follow where our parent organization is headed as it affects how our local association will move forward into the future. Last Day at TPA 2009Our closing day at TPA was a dandy.
Nathan Pope and Marcus Stavchansky presented their Hot Topic continuing education seminar along with several other presenters from the TPA RLI (RxPerts Leadership Institute). The talk had a lot of discussion from the audience and it really provided some great information for all who attended.
We spent time at the Delegation meeting discussing the revisions or rewrite of the CAPA Bylaws. This discussion was to say the least long winded, but it is great to see discussion actually happening. Times are changing for the profession and all of us need to be prepared for what comes ahead for the profession of pharmacy.
At the closing session we saw the changing of the guard. Bill Moore passed on his duties to Gene Adams and all the board of directors were sworn in for their responsibilities for the association in the coming year.
We had a closing session with a motivational speaker who used the sounds of his guitar, and skillful playing to ask the questions ‘What If?’ and ‘Why not?’
What a great weekend to meet colleagues and old friends. We also had the opportunity to see where our profession is headed in the state of Texas.
In the end we all learned that it is up to us, the pharmacy community, to dictate where our profession should go. The worst thing you can do is sit down and do nothing. We need to continue our local association meetings, like CAPA. We need to grow the membership and more importantly we need to get that membership more active within teh pharmacy community.
Thank you TPA for hosting a great event. The Capital Area Pharmacy Association is looking forward to representing the event in Austin next year. Mark Zamutt will be serving as chair representative for the TPA event in 2010.

1st Day at TPAWe enjoyed our first full day of the conference at TPA.
The opening session was a passing of the guard from Jim Martin to Joe DaSilva as the new CEO/Executive director for the Texas Pharmacy Association. We also heard from our current president Bill Moore, R.Ph. the current president of TPA.
There were several Educational sessions to attend to throughout the morning and afternoon.
Additionally there were delegation meetings to discuss bylaws and resolutions that were of interest to the members that were attending.
We wrapped up the day at the Exhibit Hall showcase where we visited the various sponsors of the event and the new and exciting products for pharmacy practice that they made available. There was food, fun, and lots of people to meet.
We are looking forward to the second day of sessions and more time to network with colleagues from all over the state.
