For more than a decade the Capital Area Pharmacy Association has been supplying pharmacists to the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic, an organization who’s mission is “to help the most vulnerable have access to high quality healthcare and prevention education.”

Each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-10pm a pharmacist from CAPA helps with this mission.  Pharmacy technicians who regularly staff the pharmacy manage the workflow and computer system of the pharmacy.  Response from students and technicians across Austin was so great the clinic added an additional volunteer position to the pharmacy in 2009 called the Pharmacy Volunteer. This added tremendously to the efficiency and productivity of the pharmacy.

In 2009, Royd Malmstrom, the Volunteer Coordinator for more than a decade won the Texas Pharmacy Association Local Chapter Award for his dedication to this great cause. Congratulations Royd and thank you.

CAPA uses an online volunteer scheduling system Volunteer Spot to schedule pharmacists.  If you are interested in volunteering your time as a pharmacist, please contact Nathan Pope at npope@capa-austin.org or go directly to this link .  You will enter your email and be emailed a link to register and volunteer!  Once registered, you will be asked to complete a volunteer application and attend a short orientation to the clinic.
